Stock Assessment for Seven Fish Species Using the LBB Method from the Northeastern Tip of the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh

Assessment of fish stock status is generally required for fisheries management, which difficult when the data are limited. The length-based Bayesian Biomass (LBB) approach a powerful and new method, where only length-frequency used estimating resources. Here, we applied LBB method to assess seven commercially valuable marine fishes from northern tip Bay Bengal (BoB), Bangladesh. These species were Lepturacanthus savala, Pampus argenteus, Nemipterus japonicas, randalli, Ilisha filigera, Saurida tumbil, Upeneus sulphurous. current relative biomass (B/B0) ratios smaller than BMSY/B0 in five stocks, except N. japonicas this indicates that, populations assessed, two grossly overfished, three healthy stocks. Moreover, length at first capture (Lc) was lower optimal (Lc_opt) all populations, growth overfishing, suggesting that increasing mesh sizes would be beneficial. present findings confirm Bangladesh’s coastal water fishery resources declining.
